Question: Is this a good deal for a used pool table? (Posted by: ImStuck on 2010-01-11 05:20:43) I'm looking to buy a pool table. I played some in college and now have joined a league at work. Of course I'm the worst person on the team (but I guess they need my handicap to stay low), but I"m looking to get a decent table for practice at home. Please check out this link and tell me what you think. Thanks http://norfolk.craigslist.org/spo/1544406410.html (BTW - Its only a 7' table. The room I want to put the table in may fit an 8', but a 7' may be better). Is it really that much better to train on an 8'? Rojo - Thanks for your comment. Yes, I'm going to go and take a look today. Lucky, its on my way home from work. There are a lot of other tables for sale in my area, "Leisure Bay", but I like this one, its "Cannon", do you know much about brands? And is there anything else I should "check" for on the table besides ripples? I believe its slate, so I guess it shouldn't be rippling? The people from my league said they'd help me disassemble/assemble it if I get a table...that should be fun! Thanks again! I've only played in one match so far, but will be playing again Wed. I believe we play on a 7' table, w/APA rules...the best rule i've learned is that "slop" shots still count...yeah! |

Posted by: rojo on 2010-01-11, 05:39:23 What size table will you be playing your matches on? If theyre played on a 7' table then train on the 7' table. It can mess up your shot making ability when you switch from one size to another. Most tables in bars are 7' & pros play on a 9' table. You hardly ever see an 8' table anymore. I dont know why anyone would want one. Occassionally in my pool league we'd go to a bar with an old 8 foot table & we'd always play bad. But there were like 3 bars out of 20 that had an 8'. Another thing to watch out for is some old tables actually use a cue ball thats bigger than the other balls. You wont notice if you dont look cose, but youll wonder why the ball never seems to stop rolling & why you cant stop it as easy. Also, a bigger ball makes contact with the other ball at a different point so youll miss more too. Get the 7' table. I looked at the listing briefly. You get all that stuff for 2k? It looks like its in good shape too. Look it over in person if you can & check the felt. It costs alot to refelt. Also, run your fingers over the surface & feel for ripples, bumps, dips, or other defects in the slate. |
